Panel 1: Soldier five, gun shaped autocaster drawn, aimed, and firing.

Soldier five:
: Cover the Magus!

Panel 2: Soldier six, arm outstretched, empty gloved hand held mostly horizontal.  A magic circle surrounds it, with three small cuboids floating around it.  Considering he's a soldier, not a magus, this is probably an autocaster, though the story world does include the possibility of lesser mages.  Edit: reading the author's comment reply on this page, soldier six is probably a lesser mage, given the visor.

Soldier six:
: On it!

Panel 3: [[Kardus]], bent forward and running.  A beam of something apparently just missed him, though the beam travels on his other side, so it's not completely clear if it actually missed or if it somehow passed through without apparently hurting him.

Panel 4: Kardus' fist, punching a soldier.

Panel 5: Kardus cr-zaping a soldier.

Panel 6: Kardus, upright and out of fighting mode.

Kardus:
: Now...
: Am I supposed to dig out their tank...?
: Seems like a pain in the ass...
: Wait... is there another of the little rats?

Panel 7: Kardus being grazed by some mass projection effect on the cheek.  He looks surprised.

Kardus:
: Ah-!

Panel 8: Some rubble.

Kardus, from off-panel:
: Running off after shooting me?  Seriously, what do you think you are-

Panel 9: Kardus, head and shoulders, holding his left index finger against his bullet graze.

Kardus:
: Ah... A distraction.  You think you are a distraction.  It seems this one is alive.
: Better step on it before it becomes troublesome again...

Panel 10: [[Arkady]], on his hands and knees, apparently in the process of getting up.

Kardus, from off-panel:
: What do they feed you people anyway?

: You're the second one that's not died properly when zapped.  Least you had the decency to almost die.

Panel 11: Arkady, upright enough to see who he's dealing with.

Arkady:
: You... you're an orish war mage... Why would you be here?

Panel 12: Kardus, his left hand down at his side, looking annoyed.  The angle appears to be from Arkady's not yet standing position.

Kardus:
: Sightseeing.
: That ridiculous braid thing... That means you're engaged, right?
: Should I be worried that some heartbroken maiden will track me down for vengeance?

Panel 13: The right half of Arkady's face.

Arkady:
: I don't think we need to waste her time on the likes of you...
: Guess I'll just have to kill you myself.

Panel 14: [[Princess]], head.  Her head is on a gray pillow.

Princess:
: Mmm, ah!  A... what?
: [[Ashy]]?  What's...  ah... the hospital...

Panel 15: Ashy standing beside the princess' hospital bed, the princess in the bed.

Ashy:
: Ah!  You're awake... good...  I was just coming by to say... ah..  See you later, I guess, sis.

Princess:
: What?  What's been happening...  I remember... there was this mage with... ugh...
: What's going on?  Where are you going?

Panel 16: Ashy, head and shoulders.

Ashy:
: Going to [[Arpon]], sis.  [[Consul | The Consul]] needs some more mages... so I guess I'm up.  I'll be fine, don't worry about it.
: Arkady is already out there, you know.  I guess I gotta watch over him, right?

Panel 17: Princess sitting up in bed.

Princess:
: You and Arkady?  Sent to the front lines?  To fight?!  What the hell is going on, Ashy?!  They can't send you guys!  The two of you couldn't fight your way out of a blanket fort!
: Stay here!  I'll go, I have to get there before Arkady gets into trouble... some of those mages are really tough and he might be scared!

Panel 18: Ashy, head to mid chest.

Ashy:
: Whoa, whoa, slow down.  You took a walloping, sis, you still have bones and stuff knitting up.  Arkady asked to go, no one sent him...  [[Tyler | Weber]] got hurt too, so Arkady asked to replace him, cause, you know, duty and what not, since I guess they know each other at [[Levenworth]].
: Don't worry, I'll watch out for him...  I mean, I am a registered mage and all now...  It'll be fine, just rest up.
