The Whirlpool virus was mentioned all the way back in Chapter 0 Page 1. It is, however, not a significant topic through the story up to at least Chapter 13. However, it's a big enough of a situation that Corporate Affairs was involved with the investigations to the point where they had significant data to share with Criminal Investigations. Peter is one of C.A.'s suspects.
